New York - DAY ONE

I’m sat here writing this from our apparently haunted, but perfect Hotel in regards to warmth and location. Don’t get me wrong, the décor is a little dated with a colour palette of beige and magnolia, the horizontal stripped wallpaper and the lift is a little cranky; but I personally didn’t come to New York to sit in the hotel, I came to adventure and my god did we do that on our first day!

Up bright early the sight of slow falling snow outside our room got me ridiculously excited to visit Times Square! On route we stopped off at Victoria’s Secret just off of Times Square and I thought the VM at Birmingham’s new store was extravagant! If the walls weren’t streaming videos of the most recent 2015 VS show of the angels strutting alongside Taylor Swift, they were pink and decorated with immaculate pictures of the Angels. Tables that displayed underwear garments were guarded by an angel mannequin that’s wings were beautifully embroided to match the underwear in which being displayed. Birmingham hasn’t got shit on New York!

Times Square was pretty as I imagined, similar to London’s Leicester Square but on a completely different scale; like most things in America everything was bigger, much bigger and much better! After being engulfed by all the lights for sometime we decided to take a wonder in Sephora; the best make up store ive ever stepped foot in! Of course as expected, a group of girls in the best make-up store in New York City, we all got a little lost and went crazy! The more glitter the better!

Next on the list was a visit to The Museum of FIT, the Fashion and Textile History Gallery. ‘Faking it’ was the exhibition. Looking at originals, copies and counterfeit garments from the famous Coco Chanel classic suit and recent copies of Jeremy Scotts play on the Golden Arches for Moschino. Scott asked the marketing department at McDonalds for their approval to use their iconic logo within his worked and they approved. Since 2013 the Moschino collection has been seen everywhere as well as the idea of consumerism alongside super brand names. High End advertisement for McDonalds; they be silly not too!

Wendy Williams is an America Gossip Queen! Being on her show was something else. Firstly we got approached outside FIT and were persuaded to become a part of the audience. Being compacted single file into an industrial sized lift that felt as if we were about to take part in some sort of ‘Hunger Games’ style fight for survival programme we were all some what.. Shitting ourselves! Walking through backstage doors to loud pumping music bright lights and an array of disco walls got us a little more excited, but still apprehensive, Donny Willaburg and his recently wedded wife were on the show; chatting about their not so public wedding where in which around only 100 people attended, not to mentioned the thousands who witnessed them say ‘I do’ on their reality TV show, not too public ay! All in all the experience was ridiculous and so interesting how the producer took part in order to make us getting crazy loud, expressive and respond to the guests that featured on the show.

After hours of being sat in the spotlight we headed for ‘Five Guys’, which was better than any McDonalds, I’ve ever had. Next stop Fifth Avenue for a bit of luxury window shopping looking at the last of the Christmas visual merchandising from Bergdorf Goodman’s, Tiffany and Louis Vuittion ect!

The highlight of the day for me was our trip up to the top of the Rockafeller center. I was ridiculously excited to see the Rockafeller Christmas Tree, which was featured on Home Alone; I think everywhere we explored on this trip I referred to Home Alone… KEVIN! The noise was solitude and so peaceful, I almost shed a tear to how beautiful the view was among thousands of lights you could see from all over it just amazed me that their were millions going about their day in one view and all you could hear was silence.  Ridiculous.

New York, Can i Stay?
