Charlie Engman

A few more images from the GARAGE magazine editorial photographed by Charlie Engman; a written analysis was of an individual image taken from 'Bodies in Urban Places'. I loved the juxtaposition in every individual image, it made me question the angling on various pages which is something to consider alongside composition within our pieces! Ramble over. With Love, DOAFSDO, x

Fashion Editorial Shoot from Garage an art, fashion and literacy magazine.

- Pastel colour palette against rustic tones on the street. Brick wall, road sign.
- Girl knelt down on concrete with relaxed posture.
- Outdoor surroundings used as probe; some with torn paper on, connate old surroundings.
- People wearing pink leggings hanging on the back of a lamp post positioned on the left; with bums sticking out.
- Wearing transparent boots with heel & Pastel pink coat; all MiuMiu labeled on bottom of page.
- A white background boarders the rectangle image, with a small Arial like font detailing the pieces of clothing the made up the styling.
- Older models attitude seems innocent and childlike due to the position she's knelt in, her hands situated on her lap connoting this childlike feel in the image.
- Humorous and playful body language from characters on the left juxtaposes the feelings expressed from the model looking innocent and perhaps vulnerable central.

Entitled ' NOTHING STICKS'

Charlie Engman shot the series that my chosen image was from for issue No7 of Garage Fall/Winter 2014. Bringing the beauty of bodies in urban spaces alive, as part of a sequel of balleric images emerge with colour; bodies entwine to create a dance of defiance amount the spread. 'Bodies in Urban Spaces' was the specific idea that informed its production, the shape and colours used within the whole image series looks like it could be inspired by American modernism.

alteration manipulation operation!

Original image

Shock Horror i picked a nice pink flouncy image for abit of Photoshop editing. I am focusing one of my mood board on 'Hot Fuzz' i love the coat styled in this photograph so this made it more than appropriate to use!

Ive got a feeling getting used to the shortcuts and software techniques on Photoshop will be a challenging process for me, leaving that aside i really enjoyed todays editing seminar. We focused on changing an images Luminosity, Halftone Pattern, Hue & Saturation, Replacing Colour & Duotone; deepening on a chosen colour from our colour palette.

Technique in Note form

-     Luminosity
Create layer of target colour UNDER the image on a separate layer, Convert the photo layer above to Luminosity, New Blank layer, drag under photo, Use pipette tool too fill the box with colour, Photo is sitting on top of photo you want to match,  covert on layer drop down function, change from normal to luminosity.

       - Halftone Pattern
Made up of the Colour plus white, only RGB file so might have to change the mode, image, mode, convert to RGB, select don’t merge,  select target colour & white for the two colour boxes at the bottom of toolkit, colour is dominant, white is secondary - filter, filter gallery, sketch, halftone pattern, select dot.

-   Replace Colour
Go to image adjust, replace colur, use the pipette to select the dominant colour, select the bulk of dominant colour from the photo, Use fuzziness to select the appropriate amount of colour, capture most of the colour.

-    Duotone
-       Made up of colour and white, brighter cleaner image, only available if you are on grayscale, image, mode, moveto grayscale, don’t merge, discard,  have a grey image. Go mode, Duotone, make sure preset is at custom, make a note of the CMYK/RBG colour, then print the colour with white on the image.
