Post Production Play

Photoshop in one of the most renown tools in he creative art industry and is forever developing. Its really quite amazing the things that you can do in post production in order to distort and manipulate an image; changing the whole concept and story behind the images. Here are a few examples in which photoshop can blur, combine and cut away from image, some not quite as crazy as others.

Post Studio and Pritt Stick

Post Studio editing is also very popular and an interesting artistic approach to presenting fashion image. One of my favourite books 'Pictures' from photographer Tim Walker include stacks of post studio editing using collage which i absolutley love, but you must be careful- create the concept you are intending and not recreate pages of your primary school art book!

How ridicuslsy beautiful is this last example. Having always been a fan of texture, textiles and sampling materialism reworking and images and laerying samples over the top so delicately to create this frail, worn and innocent pieces is just something else. I love it.

In the Studio

Considering art direction there are many creative features that can be set up within the studio in order to create memorable photos that don't necessary need any post production work and work really well depending on the concept within your styling and image.

Glitter & Happiness- Sprinkle that shit everywhere..

Typography clutches have been flying around everywhere since Anya Hindmarsh kicked it all off in SS13 with her kitchen branding clutches. I've had my eye out for my own. A friend discovered this beauty & I couldn't resist! A selfridges exclusive design this is one of four designs; costing only £20 I couldn't get my hands on it quick enough! Glitter & Happiness- sprinkle that shit everywhere!

Happy Friday everyone! DOAFSDO, x

The fairest of them all..

Every time you opened that tiny little jewellery box when you were a little girl and the musical ballet dancer would start to spin then the old croaky worn out yet happy musical tune would play out. This is exactly what Harrods displayed in one of their windows for the festive season this year. So it had to be Haute Couture designer Zuhair Murad that completely stole the show for me, the dress in which she wore was exquisite. Made up of ostrich feathers and the most delicate crystals to make the skirt of the dress. Spinning in front of a smashed mirror around a broken pearl necklace this window really did look like it was from the 'Land of Make Believe'.

Surprisingly, LK Bennett was another store that i payed particular interest in. Ever so simple but i loved it. What looked like ever so fine copper and gold strands and fibres that were then woven into long strips of metal material. The pieces were then draped around circle hoops along with oversized pearls in order to create an almost chandelier over the chosen accessories on display which shimmered so delicately in the right light. Super pretty, quite simple but effective.

If your off to London anytime soon, be sure to check out the displays there sure to make you smile and put you in the festive mood! With Love, DOAFSDO, x

Spotted in London

Exploring London this Monday was a prefect change to grab a few images for my street style breif in an alternative City that is always atmospheric and there is always something new and exciting around the corner! Here a few of todays characters that caught my eye.

On our way out of Topshop i even got stopped myself. It was the Metro Newspaper that were looking at 'Dog Tooth' style that has been cropping up recently to do a double page feature in the Metro on monday; so I've asked a few of my London friends to keep an eye out. Thanks Metro, you made my day!

Happy Monday, With Love, DOAFSDO, x

Pastels, Baubles and Glitter on Oxford street!

Not only is christmas one of my most fun favourite times of year, but the Visual Merchandising and displays within stores at this time of year are so exciting! Pastels being an ongoing trend into the winter months and glitter being an absolute sell out leading to christmas and the new year i am in my absolute elements! A colour palette of pink and glitter?! Send it my way!

Two of my particular favourite things, pink & glitter were on display in Topshop on Oxford street, the arrangement was something that i really loved. Firstly lets talk about that faux fur, its always a tricky one finding faux fur pieces that aren't ridiculously shiny or look really cheap; so for £60 this shrug scarf could be quite a dandy investment if you looked after it and didn't wear it out in the rain of course! It was such good quality for the price, it was oversized and the pastel shade was lovely; although i don't know exactly how long this pastel trend will stay kicking about for! Styled with glitter sequins dresses, extravagant glitter eye makeup, placed under a sky of half lit clear baubles these mannequins certainly grabbed my attention. Well done to Topshop's VM this week.. i want it all.

Holographic Heros

Looking at my futuristic colour palette, this is a mix and match trend board looking at current pieces & agreements that already exhist and that i believe work really well translating these colours into fashion. Featuring one of my absolute dream items an MCM studded rucksack! One day, one day…

Horst at V&A

V&A is currently holding a collection of photographs from late photographer Horst who focuses on composition, lighting and atmospheric illusion within his images. The exhibition showed rare vintage prints, sketchbook works, and collaborations with one of my favourite crazy artists Savidoor Dali!

The exhibition was a really interesting insight into the photographer, but i believe as an audience at the millennial age we would have appreciated the work if we saw the exhibition 40 years ago; due to technology developing dramatically over the last 20 years. I feel i defiantly take for granted colour and techniques within old images as things such as Photoshop are so asessible i think we take for granted the quality of vintage film prints. Nevertheless the colour in the Vogue portrait images were phenomenal, the the essence of true film photography really showed; the images were around A2 sized presented in a clinical white section of the exhibition which really exaggerated the colour- this collection was my favourite!

Unfortunately no photos or sketching within the exhibition was allowed, But this is one cheeky shot that i probably shouldn't have taken… How was your Monday?

Always consider Text, Image, Composition and Layout

Being an FCP student it is important to know and understand the message and concept in which you are trying to convey. This was a super simple yet effective exercise that initially steam from our colour palette collection; we chose an image and then reflecting on the image a collection of colours that corresponded well. Making decisions on the size of the image, colours used and then one key word that fell in association with the image well were all key into creating a composition that corresponded well on the page. I really like some of my examples and others i don't believe work so well, so when considering composition on a page or editorial these key features are super important to remember for future reference!
