Lazy Oaf looking Vintage find

One of my absolute favourite places to go for coffee or lunch in Notts is Hopkins! Right opposite the train station its an ideal hotspot before or after a long train journey; it's the quaintest little cafe that sits amongst vintage treasures which are situated mainly at the back of the cafe, in the basement and also upstairs. So, on one of our fundays exploring (when we should have probably been working, but shhh) Mellie & I took a trip there and have a route through the clothing. This dress was a staggering £6! Which i could not believe. The 80's pattern looks a lot like the patterns and symbols used within Lazy Oafs recent collections, which is one of my absolute fav brands at the moment! I couldn't say no. Im thinking about altering the dress to make it shorter and what not, but for my works dinner comfort was key. Baggy 80's dress, cloated heels thats make up a monochrome colour palette and my hot pink pompom earrings. booooom!

Happy Boxing day! With Love, DOAFSDO, x

Pretty Clever Printing

The world of fashion is a very glamorised thing that it is so easy to forgot about the enrolment and the way in which things have developed so quickly in such a short space of time. Even in my lifetime as a millennial i have seen how a portable mobile phone has developed into a crazy device that hold inside them the schedules of our lives- which is crazily impressive.

One way in which technology has developed is the process of three diminutional printing; the materials used in order to print 3D are not toxic and excess waste definitely won't be disposed of into the ocean, lakes or other various water supplies. Made from powder the consumer becomes the factory due to new advanced 3D scanning technology. Bespoke to the body shape, fluid and flexible shapes can be printed- in the future garments could be made from home as 3D printers can cost as little as £1000.

Lady Gaga wearing a 3D parametric sculpture printed dress which is one piece completed on one printer, by Studio XO a London based fashion technology company and was printed by Belgian company Materialise.

Biotechnology is something that has started to change the way we create garments, its consists of fibres made from genetically engineered crops, such as corn and bamboo; ethanol and types of plastic are also used in the process to create environmentally friendly textile. It is being research further into how these materials can regulate a temperature, control odour and also repel dirt and water; meaning the textile will not need washing as often, saving water & electric.

'Bio-based textiles is the new rage. Not just fibers, biotech is providing environment-friendly textile manufacturing processes. Take the case of stonewash jean. Earlier, the jeans were washed with acid and pumice stones which were extracted from strip machines using heavy machinery. This energy intensive process has been replaced by enzymes. The enzyme-based "stonewash" process requires much less energy and it does not damage the jeans fabric. Similarly, enzymes are increasingly used to soften fabrics for making khakis and other clothing. Enzymes are used to treat and degrease leather instead of petroleum-based solvents.' - http://www.biospectrumindia.com

Iris Van Herpen is a Dutch fashion designer who is renowned for her futuristic, darkly fantastical aesthetic, which she has shown during Couture Week in Paris. Interning with Alexander McQueen initially got her work recognised. These are various of her 3D print pieces.. ridiculously clever & so beautiful!

My trend mood board is focusing on a future potential trend, i have recognised that 'Metallics' have been on trend and sold on the high street for the past few seasons; especially at this festive time of the year! So I want to take the 'Metallic' trend and then appreciate the structures and designs of the garments that are metallic. I want to focus on 'Futuristic Metallic Pastels' as researching trend forecasts i believe this is a future trend to be considered next. Combining futuristic designs & colour would be the next step for my trend board also considering existing architecture for inspiration for the trend board as mentioned previously.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall..

#mirror #mirroring #metallics #postproduction #editing

Post production is increasingly popular in regards to fashion photography, advertising and editorial. Software developed rapidly over the last few years; programs such as photoshop are used on a daily basis working in the fashion industry but also graphics and advertising agencies. Photoshop is used in fashion to create the idea of mockery and romanticism in advertising. Using a few easy editing tools i have used my own images based on development on my 'Metallic Moodboard' images.

This final edit is my favourite. As i am focusing on Indian designer Manish Arora for my 'Metallic Brandboard'. So i thought when editing potential pictures from my mood board i wanted to incorporate the ideas of Indian sculpture and architecture into the work. I believe if Manish Arora were to re-establish his collection he could look at the structure and pattern within indian architecture for inspiration.

Next Big Thing

Polyvore has recently created a new application for all android and smart phones, where in which the online creative brand has been translated into a handy service on the go. I believe the brand concept is really engaging and useful for young professionals; hence why i have chosen Polyvore as my new big thing brand.

Primary research is very important to oder to support my thoughts that Polyvore is a well suited brand that i can analyse and identify as my best big thing brand. I have asked various people, male and female, on their opinion, regarding concept and brand.  As follows is some of the interesting feedback i received:

Hi ----, I was just wondering if you could please answer a few questions regarding a social media app from brand Polyvore - Had you heard of Polyvore before University? Did/do you have the app? Is documenting items of clothing online in an archive and combing this with creative collages, something you think is positive in order to shop online? And something you think you would use? Thank you for your time, Chloe Newton

Females:
Ellie: Student: Yes I had heard of Polyvore and used to use it frequently a few years ago. Even though I stopped using it I do believe it is a useful app and I will probably use it again in the future. Thanks

Tara: Student:  Hi Chloe, I have heard of the app before but this is due to me being a fashion student. I don't currently have the app but I think it's a great idea for documenting outfits! I would definitely use it in the future x

Katie: Student: Hi Chloe, I had heard of it before but never really looked into it until recently! I think it's really helpful way of shopping, I know that I always buy things but can never find anything to go with it so it helps create a whole outfit. I think it's also good for inspiration for colour schemes and design ideas. Hope this helped x

Abi: Works in Media – Hello Chloe! I have heard of Polyvore yes, some girls in the office have mentioned it. I think I would use the application now you’ve mentioned it- mainly for creative purposes and arranging moodboards etc. I am often against purchasing online due to sizing, but if it’s a must have I would look into using Polyvore, Yes! Hope your well, x

Males:
James: Student: I would certainly use a service that helped me to develop my style. I find it hard to use rival services of Polyvore such as Asos as their search results do not cater to all my needs. As a tall male (6"2") with a broad stature I feel that I am not given the same search options tall or broader females do. I definitely can not wear the jeans of the average male as they do not fit me. Using the Internet to find clothing provides a worrying wait for it to come in the post whether it will fit or not. Certainly a service that offers me the ability to find clothing that suits me as a male is something I'd be more than happy to use.

Callum: Events Organiser: Hi Chloe, I'm more than happy to help you with your questions. I hadn't heard of Polyvore, although recently my housemate has told me about it. Although I don't have the app, it sounds like a great app for people with a passion for, or even an interest in fashion and/or clothing. The idea of putting together different outfits before buying them is no doubt a great benefit for those (most youngsters these days) choosing to buy clothes online at commonly cheaper prices than down the high street. Although I don't see myself as a target consumer for polyvore, I have no doubt in saying that it would be very beneficial for its target market and I can see the mass potential for such an app. I hope this helps! Any further questions, I would be more than happy to help. Thanks,

Callum Carew

I will now take this research further, look into the brand concept and development of Polyvore in society today, to support my thought thats this particular service and brand could perhaps become the next big thing. Also looking at exhausting statistics and other competitors.

Victoria. Whats your secret?

Lets talk Victoria Secret. The show, its all PINK! I loved how fun and flouncey the whole presentation of the show was. Bright neon lights leading the girls down the catwalk, a backdrop of subtle floating feathers and oversized pompoms decorating the edges of the catwalk; but empowering the stage in any way shape or form. Fun bundles of pastel shaded balloons trailed the edge of the catwalk alongside the audience gazing at these crazily beautiful girls, with impeccable physiques.

The aired version of the show showed how the catwalk was directed into various sections. Various sections featured the vocals from Ed Sheeran over 'Exotic Dancer', Taylor Swift on 'Fairytale' and Adriana Grande dancing alongside the models on 'University of Pink'. Taylor Swift wore a pink sassy chiffon number looking pretty hot for a farmyard country singer. She's bloody terrible but have a feeling she is slowly becoming my guilty pleasure after 'Shake it off' and now this show..

It was the first few notes of heartbreaker of a song 'Thinking of you' by Ed Sheeran that opened 'Exotic Dancer', where in which Brazilian models Adrianna Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio appeared in their exquisite 2 million dollar dazzling Fantasy Angel Bras; floating down the runway with a bright blue and scarlet chiffon capes behind them. The ridiculously glistening bras were made by jewellers Mouawad using 16,000 rubies, diamonds and sapphires, all of which were strung together with 18 karat gold- they were obviously on a sincere budget this year! The relationship between the Brazilian duo and story of their friendship from being angels over the years were projected, along with glamorous  yet classy images of Adrianna and Alessandra from Angel photographer Russell James.

'University of Pink' kicked romantic vibes and filled the stage with fun, confident, flirty girls alongside Arianna Grande. Fast exciting neon lines shot underneath Arianna on the runway whilst oversized neon signs and symbols that flashed were hanging above the catwalk. The models were wearing crazy decorative jackets with a combination of snazzy looking sportswear and lingerie. Combing this 'PINK' promotion of a healthy lifestyle wearing baggy style gym pants with bras and backpacks. They all looked like they were having a party down with runway engulfed with flashing lights, glitter and feel good music, it was believable that the girls were actually having fun! Aside from all the exciting catwalk strutting and beautifully constructed garments i still believe personally that the models are still very skinny. Although Victoria secrets do promote a healthy lifestyle in many blog posts online, via Instagram and the Angels blog, these girls are still scarily thin. I am all for the fun filled shows, i think we just need to be reminded of the girls who these showed are marketed for.. as I'm pretty sure I'm not the only girl who's Whatsapp group was going crazy whilst we all dreamt over the show!

One day ill be an Angel.. but for now I'm a Uni student who lives off Pasta and treats myself too often on the weekends! With Love, DOAFSDO, x
